Perfect Anchorage location
Located in the heart of downtown Anchorage’s vibrant urban scene, our cozy property sits within easy walking distance of shopping, dining, and attractions, and features spectacular views of Cook Inlet and the Alaska Range. Anchorage is also a great place to spend a few days exploring the rich history, culture, and recreation the area affords, with museums, parks, trails, and galleries within a few minutes of the inn. Additionally, our partner company, Salmon Berry Tours, is just blocks away from the inn, with a professional staff available to assist guests with adventures in Anchorage and beyond, any time of year.
As a diverse city with a wide range of year-round activities and events, the inn is a wonderful option for those attending a concert, play, or special gathering. Stay over with us and don’t worry about driving home late at night, particularly during the winter months!
Historic Charm & Cozy Comfort
With friendly staff and personalized service, the Copper Whale Inn offers a warm, relaxed atmosphere that serves as a haven for busy Alaska travelers.
One of Anchorage’s original townsite buildings, Copper Whale’s historic main house was the first architecturally designed home in Anchorage. Constructed in 1939, it was owned by a local doctor and today provides a small oasis within a neighborhood of office towers.
From the moment you arrive in Anchorage, kick back and leave the details to us. Our friendly innkeeper will send a text to ensure all your check-in needs are met, and each room has a welcome note with information for guests. Sit in the comfortable common area or on a patio and take in sweeping views of Cook Inlet and the Alaska Range to the west, and the towering Chugach mountains to the east. At night, relax in comfortable, delightfully furnished rooms that feature locally-made bath products, fluffy comforters, and iPads for planning the next day’s adventures (the tablets can even be a tool for making restaurant reservations!).
Every morning, the innkeeper provides a bountiful, European-style continental breakfast featuring a variety of options, from cereal to pastries, cheeses, and smoked salmon. We also keep the coffee and tea flowing for guests all day long in our comfortable living room area.
