Where Is This Downtown Anchorage Inn Located?
Our cozy little inn is conveniently located at 440 L Street in downtown Anchorage. From the western windows, guests can see the stunning Alaska Range and Cook Inlet. From our front courtyard to the east, guests can enjoy a beautiful flower garden and the hustle and bustle of Anchorage. Some of the city’s most popular restaurants are within a five-minute walk of the inn, and a multitude of attractions are accessible from our front door. How Large Is the Copper Whale Inn?
The Copper Whale Inn has 15 guest rooms of various configurations to accommodate a wide range of guests. As the former residence of prominent local physician Howard Romig in the late 1930s, the inn’s original structure houses a kitchen, comfortable living room, and eight guest rooms. The West Building was constructed in 1996 to add seven additional rooms and even more guest space as word spread of the Copper Whale Inn’s popularity among Alaska residents and visitors alike.
What Amenities Are Available?
We believe guest comfort comes above all else! All Copper Whale Inn rooms offer free high-speed wifi, Roku TV, hair dryer, locally roasted coffee, and complimentary bath products sourced from local artisans. Fluffy comforters adorn the beds, and the decor is delightfully crafted with themes reflecting the whimsy and history of Alaska. Some rooms have views of Cook Inlet, and all rooms have views of the surrounding mountains and our gorgeous gardens.
Is Breakfast Included?
Indeed it is! An expansive European-continental-style breakfast is included for all guests and features delicious items like smoked salmon, pastries, cheeses, yoghurt, hard-boiled eggs, fresh fruit, and cereals. Freshly brewed coffee is always available, as is hot water for tea or hot chocolate. Juices and milk are offered as well. During the summer months, this buffet is available between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. During the winter months, breakfast is served between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., or may be presented as self-serve with no attendant during quieter times. Information regarding breakfast times will be provided to all guests upon check-in.
Which Activities Are Within Walking Distance?
One of the best parts about our downtown Anchorage inn is its accessibility to a wealth of activities and tour transportation. For those looking for a bit of physical activity, the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is just west of the inn, along beautiful Cook Inlet. Walk or jog the trail for up to 11 miles, enjoying the stunning views and opportunities to view wildlife. Copper Whale Inn also hosts the Trek Bicycle Store’s rental shop on site for those guests wishing to pedal the trail or downtown Anchorage.
The Anchorage Museum (625 C Street) and Alaska Public Lands Information Centers (605 W. 4th Avenue) are both located within walking distance of the Copper Whale Inn, along with the Anchorage Log Cabin Visitor Center (546 W. 4th Avenue). Is Luggage Storage Available?
Yes! Locked storage is available for guests at a rate of $5 USD per bag, per day. This charge can either be paid in cash or added to the room charge. We’re happy to keep your bags safely stored while you travel to other remote locations or take advantage of the many day trips available in the greater Anchorage area.
How Can I Get Here Without a Car?
While the Copper Whale Inn does not offer a shuttle service from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport or the Alaska Railroad Depot, Anchorage does have thriving taxi and ride-share services available from both locations.
